Pilates is effective -
If you'd like to add your
Simon is great at upping the ante of his classes by challenging your balance using fit balls and rollers etc while performing Pilates movements. He is also very relateable as an instructor. I leave the class feeling abs burning!
I started going to Simon’s Pilates classes as it was time I put me centre of my life and started looking after myself better, rather than just expecting my body to perform, I had to consciously start looking after it :)
Simon explains clearly, encourages you and challenges you, at the end of his class you are looking forward to the next. A “side effect” of the class, I soon found, was a holistic benefit to your health, mind and soul . Thanks Simon.
"Now just breathe in, lower the navel to the base of the spine, tilt the pelvic floor to a 3 and breathe out sideways while leaving your navel and pelvis tucked."
For someone who understands the basics of core strength and who has a medium level of fitness, pilates with Simon still leaves me feeling like I've done a 60 minute Body Attack class at the end (minus the beetroot, sweaty appearance).
So if your only workout is changing the trying to find the television remote then this might not be the best place to start. Simon does insist you come in for an initial assessment prior to coming to the class though, so you'll know soon enough if your best left doing hand eye coordination exercises in a pub on a weekend instead.
For $10 per class (or $8 if you buy a 10 class pass) you get:
- 45 minutes of zen where you have no option but to purely focus on how I'm supposed to lift my leg and keep a flat stomach without straining.
- New found abs and buns of steel (or just the feeling that you now have them since you will be a little tender 2 days after class
- A really flexible and laid back teacher who brings as much fun into the class as possible whilst working you damn hard.
It is important to note though that I do struggle with Simon sometimes getting sidetracked during class, causing him to loose count and you then ended up working one side more than another. So either be prepared to omm and move past it or cheat and do a bit of extra work to balance out those buns.
I have really enjoyed your classes, they have been and continue to be a challenge every week and i have seen a great improvement in myself which I'm determined not to lose. Thank you for pushing me and for your passion for pilates and for keeping the fees low!

I found you and your site to be a very useful resource for our practice when we needed to fill several vacated sessions early last year. The practitioner who joined our team at the time is still with us and has extensive past experience which is reflected in the quality of her classes. So I will be looking for assistance from you once again.
I have thoroughly enjoyed your classes and it was a shame I didn’t get to do more! - Your Pilates classes are the best! I feel sore after every one (in a good way!)
Thanks for the e-mail. I would love to borrow a foam roller to see if it continues to make a difference for my knee flexion. I’m so happy with the progress I’ve made over the last few months and I’m sure that the Pilates has been a main contributor.
Simon, I passed my Polestar Mat Pilates teaching exam!
It's been a really long fascinating and hard journey that all started from meeting you in the gym. You've gone above and beyond for me as you do for many other people and I can't thank you enough.
You should know that you're a great teacher and your belief in me and your encouragement have got me here. It would have taken me so much longer without your help. It's a huge relief, to have it behind me and move forward with so many things that have been on hold.
It's been an honour to have been invited into your special world.
Your friend Michael
I came to class feeling like a knotted ball of rubber bands and I now feeling as loose as a goose……..Look out world!
Well I am hopeless at goodbyes and am in denial that you do not get the privilege of torturing me every Monday! Seriously it is often the highlight of my week, and a lovely escape from a house of boys!
I am secretly hoping that you are going to turn up Monday and announce that it is all just some sick practical joke! I have never stuck to a regular exercise class until now, was ideal for stretching out my saggy aching mum muscles and clearing my mind.
Sorry its taken me this long to write something but this sad news knocked my socks off.....and those who know me will find it very hard to believe but I was LOST FOR WORDS!!! Simon you are the best!! Thanks for making Pilates not just great for you but so much fun at the same time! Miss you already!
My journey into the world of Pilates began with Simon about 6 months ago. Simon is an inspirational teacher that has excellent communication skills and great verbal cues that are very helpful to access better, more functional movement patterns with proper muscle recruitment.
I always come away from Simons classes energised, with a feeling of increased wellbeing.
Simon has a great way of encouraging you to push your boundaries of movement in a safe, productive manner. Classes are always a supportive friendly environment. I will miss Monday night Pilates at Jetts, with the great characters that shared that environment.
Will definitely miss your class. You have certainly changed the way I view things (abs wise in particular). I did a "core" class at another venue and the entire time I kept thinking, "this is not correct, how is doing 100 fast crunches and ab twists working on my core?".
I have thoroughly enjoyed Simon Trangmar's classes - they are the best pilates classes I have ever done. He is an excellent instructor giving his class attendees so much to help their overall fitness and well being.
Sarah / Michael
Pity the Jetts classes had to end - you've created a family in there, and we are all going to be devastated.
You should so proud of the community you've weaved Simon. It's all a result of your passion and generosity with your expertise, time and energy for everyone. That's how you found me, and by extension, Michael. And it was your contagious enthusiasm and obvious mastery that drew us to your class, and made us want to study. We're so grateful to you.
We're so sorry. HOWEVER:
There's no way we're letting the dungeon master go, so we'll be back in touch re a plan to keep learning from you.
Simons classes are amazing!!! You work hard but you still have fun. His passion for teaching and Pilates really shows and once I began his classes, I did not want to miss them.
He goes above and beyond for his students. He would check up the following day, to see how I was as he knows I have lower back issues.
His classes become like a little pilates family, they are a highlight of my gym week!!
thanks Simon : )
Simon is the best Pilates instructor I have ever had. Although the exercises were straightforward and easy to follow, Simon found a way to challenge every one at different experience levels.
He is always ready to offer a word of advice to ensure the technique was right, including the breath - something not many Pilates instructors remember to do.
It is clear that Pilates is a passion for Simon and that shines through in his classes.
Simon is a great instructor with lots of information and instructions as to how to complete a move safely and properly to get maximum effect. He puts a lot of care and effort in his class plan and will be missed at Jetts!
I have personally found Pilates beneficial and want to keep up my lessons
I began Pilates Classes with Simon over 2 years ago not really knowing what to expect. Guess what? I still don't know what to expect...! :)
Apart from knowing that the first Monday of every month would be a Fit Ball Class each week is a whole new experience.
Simon has the ability to mix up his classes with new and exciting moves every time we attend. He challenges us every time and laughs with us as we attempt to perform feats making us contortion into positions we didn't ever dream of trying.
Starting my week with a Monday evening class is what I look forward to.
I have been attending simon's Monday Pilates class at Jetts for about 18 months. I remember at the beginning, I had mixed feelings about going to the class because it was certainly not easy; but at the same time I felt the progressive improvement and I really enjoyed the challenge.
I have learnt so much about body position in space, body awareness and scheme, and most importantly muscles that I didn't even know I had. I think one of the best part of simon's classes is that it's tailored to the individual, so no one feels left out- and my brother proved that, because he's always refused to go to any other classes but Simon's.
I will definitely miss going to the classes, it was something that I looked forward to every Monday and it helped with my mondaylitis. Thanks Simon!
Hope you didn't mind us razzing you up today . You seem like the kind of guy who can take it.
I've been meaning to email you as every week around Tuesday or Wednesday my lower back starts to ache. After pilates I'm good again for the week. I'm really enjoying and needing it. So thanks.
Can you also let me know how I'm going with my pass numbers. I must be close to needing another.
Cheers (cheeky) Kym
Hi Simon, I am currently doing my Matwork Pilates course with Queen Street Pilates Studio. I do not have any background in PT or coaching or exercise. I started dancing for fun, the instructor keeps telling us to hold/use the core for balance and when doing turns. I did a search on "core" and found Pilates. Started Pilates as a client last year, found it so beneficial with my dancing. Decided to do the course to help others out and myself. Love it!!!
Stumbled across your website... Oh my god, you are such a legend!!! I really appreciate what you are doing. It's difficult enough to break into this industry with no network!!! (I am finding it difficult to get Student-Teaching position with just Matwork, as most of the places require either both matwork & equipment or they prefer a physio with pilates!) .
Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for your amazing inform ative website!
I saw my Osteopath recently for a "tune up" and he commented on just how fluid my upper body muscles have become, making it easier for him to make his adjustments. Such a contrast from how they were a few years ago! Your Pilates and Fiona's yoga appears to be paying off.
As a new mum, I have been unable to continue attending your 6am classes. I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed them and now miss them (hard to believe one would miss a 6am class, but true)! I especially miss your focus, drive and passion for sharing the Pilates moves Simon – you have a wonderfully positive energy that really rubs off on all those attending.
I really miss the experience of ‘someone else being in the driving seat’ and guiding me, knowing that I am achieving a highly effective workout. Left to my own devices, I struggle to remember some of the moves and progression. While the videos on your website are a tremendous help to enable me to work on regaining my core strength at home, it’s not quite the same as being watched/guided/nagged(!) in class to be confident that I am doing the moves correctly.
Your Pilates classes did a lot to prepare me both physically and mentally for pregnancy, birth & beyond and I really appreciate the resources on your website in the absence of being able to attend your classes - keep up the great work Simon!!
I must say though that the semester of Pilates I did last year was extremely effective at strengthening my lower back and giving me the confidence to do activities which a year ago I wondered if I'd ever be able to do again.
I've just finished a successful first season of senior cricket with the capability to bowl fairly long spells of overs, when back in September I told everyone I was only going to play as a batsman/ fielder because I didn't see my back sustaining the bowling action for at least another year. I also helped to re-pave a front garden of a house over summer which really tested my lower back with digging, lifting heavy paving-bricks and repeated bending but I didn't have any problems.
So what I'm trying to say is that I still strongly believe in the benefits of Pilates
As a fellow group fitness instructor at Jetts, I can testify that Simon is adored by his students. His classes are always packed, and people keep coming back week after week. And it makes sense!
Simon is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, and is an excellent teacher. With the positive energy he brings to each class it's no surprise that people line up outside!
I have been to Pilates classes before, and frankly found them non-effective and a waste of time – only because clearly I was not doing the moves correctly.
The great thing about Simon is that he teaches you properly how to get the most out of each move. And boy could I feel it afterwards. He really challenges you based on your level, I have really noticed the difference just after a few classes.
Simon offers a friendly and relaxed teaching style in a non-competitive environment and has made me feel instantly welcome into his classes.
He encourages me to challenge myself whilst understanding and respecting my individual needs. I attend the weekly classes as often as possible, but with a busy work schedule sometimes it’s difficult for me to get there.
Simon has given me the knowledge, understanding and inspiration I need to be able to practice at home on those weeks that I can’t attend, however, I still enjoy the variety the classes have to offer and they are a fun distraction from a busy work week.
I get a huge amount out of Simon's classes; been doing Pilates for 6 years and Simon is the best instructor i have had!
Pilates is not generally considered a bloke thing but, believe me, it is challenging - what a workout! I challenge any male to come along and do what he does!
I have found Simon very welcoming, down to earth and approachable. He also goes above and beyond to tailor pilates to your needs. Being a new mum I have appreciated Simon's help in closing the muscle gap that occurs during pregnancy.
Having never really done pilates before, I have found Simon's classes to be very welcoming, informative and enjoyable. Simon's classes are very flexible and he is always open to tailoring movements to individual needs.
Since joining his classes I have found that my core, leg and arm strength has improved considerably as has my posture! I look forward to my weekly pilates sessions and cannot recommend Simon enough!
I am really lucky to have come across Simon through my pilates teacher training study. I have found him to be really approachable, genuine, passionate and detail oriented. Always looking for new ideas and variations, he has an unswerving dedication and a constant energy to help.
Thank you muchly Simon AKA RUM!
I'm an ex ballet dancer and pilates was used as part of warm up and down, mind you that was over 10 years ago.
Since then I became a mother late in life having experienced a complicated delivery, ending in an emergency cesearian leaving my stomach uneven and with a big split in the muscle that won't come together.
With Simon's help and dedication I have regained some of my figure achieving a waist line with abs and legs that I am proud of. I now have strength back in my stomach and have found with Simon's progression of the exercises I'm achieving more and more. Also I'm now wearing figure hugging skirts again that I haven't had the confidence to wear in many years.
I have found Simon to be a very caring and extremely compassionate teacher. He understands that his class is the only me time I get and days following his class I'm free of tension and stress headaches.
I strongly recommend you give Simon's class a try and experience for yourself how life changing it can be.
Tom & Deb Sorensen
We have been doing yoga and gym work for some years now and never really thought about Pilates as something that would be of great benefit for us. We decided to try one of Simon's classes for a change from the regular routine, WOW.
We can only say thanks to Simon for his passionate approach, not only to his work but also our individual needs. Simon has shed a whole new light on things for us and shown us how core strength is totally vital for optimum fitness and wellbeing.
Congratulations to you Simon and good luck with all your goals.
Best Regards, Tom and Deb S.
I had always been doubtful of Pilates after hearing a mixed remarks and commentts on its effectivenes. Having seen Simon's classes available I decided to give it a go and try it for myself - so glad I did!
As per other testimonials Simon's passion drives you to keep going and challenging yourself whatever level you are on and his focus to help individuals get the most of the session is fantastic. I have not been going for very long but you definitely know when you have had a workout and can feel the difference.
Highly recommend it to anyone who wants to give it a go !
I have done Pilates off and on for quite a few years, but have not been as inspired as I would have liked so the drive to continue was not always there.
Simon's passion and dedication to making sure everyone gets as much as possible from his classes is fantastic. As an ex-long distance runner I have some limitations but this is always accommodated in his classes.
Having never done Pilates before I found it very rewarding. It was a good challenge and Simon is an excellent instructor. He is approachable and explains/demonstrates the excercises well.
Although challenging and hard work its not like some 'army like' boot camps you attend where you get drilled into the ground. This is an excellent workout without pushing too far. Thanks Simon and I will be back
I can only agree with all of the above, but the one thing that keeps amazing me time and time again is Simon's ABSOLUTE P A S S I O N when it comes to Pilates.
He doesn't do this as a living, but ON TOP of a full time job, just because he simply can't help himself (and consequently others) to spread his knowledge and dedication.
Hats off Simon, and do keep up the good work :)
This is an excellent class, Simons skill and dedication as a teacher has resulted in me seeing real results. As a cyclist I wanted to develop my core strength, Simon has tailored elements of his class to ensure that all those attending get their needs met. I feel stronger and more flexible through attending these classes.
As a fellow low impact exercise Fitness Professional, I can highly recommend Simon's focused & well developed exercise protocols.
He creates a very supportive & affable environment comfortable & encouraging for beginners & experienced exponents alike. His well choreographed exercises target all major physiological & anatomical needs with exceptionally well crafted & precise instructions including options available to cater for all levels of ability.
He can help you achieve your goals to aid your activities of daily living or rehab through to improving your physique & sporting prowess.
Simon is his own living testimonial living & breathing his own exercise regime maintaining peak physical condition!
Get on board with this high calibre instructor!
I really enjoy Simon's classes. Each class is different and Simon mixes up the exercises to keep it interesting.
Being an aspiring marathon runner, I value the way that Simon recommends different stretches for me to do in order to stretch my legs. I also love the way that pilates has the ability to refresh me for the week.
Having had a long-standing back issue, I had been thinking of giving Pilates a go for some time but it never happened. However when I saw a "Pilates for Men" flyer at the Blackwood Recreation Centre I decided it was time to take the plunge. I am so glad I did.
Since that original introduction I have been taking classes with Simon ever since and will continue to do so.
He takes a whole body view of fitness, working a range of muscles at each class as well as focussing on a specific muscle group or body part from class to class. His classes are always well planned and structured and the moves he uses always changing and developing with several variants, regressions and progressions being suggested for the beginner, intermediate or advanced student.
I always feel I have worked hard and gained benefit from the classes and am fitter, stronger, leaner and more able to cope with the physical stresses of the day as a result.
Simon is also committed to his teaching and often stays back after a class to help students with particular moves. He cares and his attitude is always helpful and supportive.
And his cheeky sense of humour makes his classes fun!
I’ve been attending Simon’s classes for several months now.
Simon plans out the classes with the exercises logically flowing from one to the next. He demonstrates alternative moves that allow all levels of ability to work to their potential and adapts the movements to cater for anyone with special requirements. I was looking for extra core strength for cycling and the results have been fantastic!
These classes allow me to forget work during my busy day and I come away from the sessions relaxed and invigorated.
Simon has a passion for Pilates and I recommend that anyone even considering attending a Pilates class should give him a try.
It is hard to explain synchronicity, you have to experience it to know it, however I will try to give you a picture.
I am a PIlates instructor in the British Virgin Islands, which is extremely far from Australia.
I have been studying for my Polestar Pilates Teacher training for the past year. I have not been to 'school' for at least thirty years, so my studying skills were next to none. Living in this paradise far away from people, places and things, I haven't had anyone to study with or assistant teach. Although I teach 3 classes a week, it is the Pamelah version of Yoga, Pilates, and Ki-Hara. That being said, at the last hour I began researching more about the principles of Polestar Pilates.
Somehow by the grace of God, I came across Simon's website.
I was shocked to find a bevy of information about Polestar's principles, sequencing, and anatomy. I promptly printed everything Simon offered. I studied and took my exam.
I was able to pass straight away two out of the four sections. If it wasn't for Simon, believe me, I would have only passed one section.
I am forever grateful for Simon's courage to post these very valuable tools for us to see. I have also gone ahead and have shared on his website some of my study guides as well, in the spirit of helping each other.
Thank you Simon for being such a great inspiration and your support. May we keep in touch always and perhaps you all can take a trip to the VIrgin Islands to experience our version of paradise.
God bless you. Pamelah

"Dear Simon - Thank your for your website.
As a 'Pilates teacher in training' I have found it to be extremely informative and helpful. You have been very generous sharing your knowledge and much information - great for both beginners and diehards.
The website itself is also really fun and has the best Pilates photos I've ever seen - inspirational. The time and effort you've been into the site and the content is very much appreciated.
Simon's classes are fun and relaxing, yet extremely challenging and rewarding!
Simon plans each class to cater to the individuals attending, so there is always something new to try each week.
The more challenging movements are delivered at various levels of difficulty, so that you can choose to ease into the movement if you need, or really push yourself at the highest level.
Simon's enthusiatic and welcoming nature, combined with the constant improvement in my core strength, keeps me motivated to come back for more every week!
I've had great results since taking Simon's classes. In particular, my core strength has improved significantly. His verbal cues and teaching method is more effective and easier to follow than any gym-based pilates class I've taken before.
Simon is a very knowledgeable teacher with an infectious enthusiasm for pilates!
