You may have noticed some group classes cancelled at Jetts. Bianca (GFM at Jetts Prospect) has advised me that ‘my’ two Mondays Pilates classes are not affected and there are no plans to stop them (unless numbers fall significantly – which, thanks to your magnificent support, seems unlikely!).
So, dieu vieux, the Monday Pilates classes remain unaltered.
A New 'Model' - Possible Future Change....
I guess this might be viewed favourably at Jetts sites which, hitherto haven’t run classes but at sites such as Prospect, where it has been an integral part of the membership…. Hmm, tough one to ‘sell’ (well, such is the feedback my straw polls have thus far revealed).
Reiterating my comment, that the Monday Pilates classes aren’t planned to be changed, I think it’d be wise to plan for the possibility Jetts may decide to make the new move compulsory. Also, if I did adopt their suggestion, I would plan to conduct extra classes to cope with the extra demand – ie I’d hire another teacher to help out – don’t worry, there are plenty of other sadistic Pilates teachers around Adelaide….
In my heart of hearts, I don’t think it will work – however, I am keeping an open mind.
I’ve yet to work out exact costings (as I haven’t discussed room rental costs in detail with Jetts) but I’d estimate about $8 per person per class. Cheap at half the price (if I do say so myself – grin) compared with costs of Pilates at dedicated Pilates Studios. However, although I’m qualified as far as you can go for Mat Work (Polestar Cert IV) , most dedicated studio classes are run by qualified Physios with the Diploma to teach the Pilates equipment too. So, it’s not really like for like.
I suspect (but don’t know) that most of you are presently paying about, what $15pw for gym membership including all classes. Mind you, ‘all classes’ is a moot point given the number of classes has been reduced! :(
If **I** was already paying $15 a week and had to pay an extra $8 for ONE class, frankly, I’d be off to Goodlife down the road at North Adelaide – where they are operating on the model Jetts seem to be moving away from. I gather they charge about $18 a week. Several of you have indicated this to me separately in private.
However, I am aware that quite a few of you are doing my classes on a casual basis – ie paying $10 a visit ($100 for a 10 visit pass). There are also others who tell me they are members primarily to do my class (which is very flattering). Clearly, for these people, $8 a week might be better – ie cancel Jetts membership and attend my class on a casual basis $8 a session.
It’s a tough one for me to gauge. Often people who’ve paid for a weekly facility, tend to use it – even when they’re feeling crook etc – ie the financial commitment engenders a physical one. Casual fees (in my experience in the CBD) tend to lead to casual commitments.
Anyhoo – I’m prepared to consider ‘embracing the new order’ (should it come to that) but I need your help.....
